CONDITION: This transit surveying system is in *surprisingly* nice pristine condition for its age, so good that some people would consider it "Like New". On the device itself, there is no or very little signs of wear. The box exterior has normal signs of wear for a nearly 75-year-old object, so just a few marks and light scratching. The inside of the box is in excellent condition as well, with very little wear. The only issue is a bit of gray paint staining coming from the foot tabletop platform. It was probably put in its box while the paint was not dry yet, a loooooooooooooong time ago! The tripod is also in excellent condition, with small signs of wear. The tripod legs are extensible, and all 3 legs were "jammed" to the position they are when I took the photos. LAST WEEK, for shipping purposes, I decided to remove securing braces and try to shorten the legs to their minimum, and I discovered all 3 legs were glued in the pictured length by dried paint/water exposure. The tripod must have been used in a rainy day, decades ago, and then was stored away... I gently pulled the wood parts apart, and each leg detached successfully with no or very little paint loss, in the hidden section of the leg. You'll get the tripod set to its minimum leg lengths, and you'll be able to use the braces to set it to desired length, using *ORIGINAL* Star head screws. Surprisingly, you need a small electronics screwdriver!
HISTORY: This transit surveying system was bought in late 1940s or early 1950s from KEUFFEL & ESSER CANADA, in Montréal, by my grandfather living in Vaudreuil-Dorion (West of Montreal island). He used it just a few times during the 1950s, and got it fixed in early 1961 (Repair note of 24-JAN-1961 on box cover). He used it again in 1965 when the TRANS-CANADA HIGHWAY has been opened to traffic west of Montreal. I have many 8mm films from that event, and maybe a few others, where I see him using the device during the 1960s. My grandfather passed away in 1969, and my father enhirited the house and the surveyor was simply stored in the basement in its box for over 50 years. I'm born in 1971, and all what I just said was related to me by my father. He never used the surveyor that was kept more as a collectible. I remember him using the tripod a few times, though, with a modern laser level pointer in 1994 when he built the structure of our new summer house. Since the last 25 years or so, the tripod was also never used.
SHIPPING: This transit surveying system will be shipped in 3 PACKAGES as follows:
    PACKAGE 1: The TRIPOD
PACKAGE 2: The BOX and accessories (without the surveyor)
PACKAGE 3: The SURVEYOR itself, heavily padded and possibly double boxed, for a safe trip to your door. I feel shipping the surveyor in its box would be risky because there is not enough room for safe padding and it could knock against wood.
Shipping is included in price (FREE to CANADA & USA). Canadian buyers should request an invoice adjustment, because since this is listed on eBay USA, they consider Canada as international. In any case, shipping service will be Express (EMS).
PICKUP? Pickup is available if you can come to Montreal. However, in that case, just e-mail me, but DO NOT make the purchase through eBay. Payment will be CASH, and you pick up the surveyor system kit... Items are not too big to be carried on the subway, bus, train, airplane, etc...
** SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY **: This is Vintage equipment, and for this reason, sold AS-IS, as you see on the photos. NO defective item or not as described case will be tolerated! Shipping will be done Express, with 3 tracking numbers, one for each package...
