    Description

    Novelty or "Fad" doll
Here is an extremely rare and
    unusual, 14" tall, antique
cloth, boudoir or bed doll-type, tea cosy (cozy) or telephone cover
    ,
    circa 1930s.
These items were the forerunners of the Art Deco bed dolls that became so popular during and following
World War I. by Norah Wellings.
Measuring about 14" long, this commercially produced charmer is shown on page 104,
in Gillian Trotter's book, "Norah Wellings-Cloth dolls & Soft Toys" as model
    #7114,
    "Spanish"
    . She
has a nicely molded and painted felt face with beautiful, brown,
    side-glancing
    eyes,
red lips and original, long black yarn wig with center part and black painted curl on her forehead. She wears a gold beaded necklace around her neck and has cute little, black velveteen, stuffed feet with her arms bent at the elbows and attached at her hips. Her original thick padded, skirt forms her body and is meant to cover a tea pot or old fashioned telephone. She wears a gown of art silk
with rows of felt ruffles, fitted bodice and black fringe shawl. She
    still sports her
    2nd Place
, 2007 Michigan Dollology Club red ribbon.
This vintage cutie has probably presided at many English tea parties and has a small fabric hole next to her nose and a few small tears and overall age darkening, no odors as she is from a smoke free home.
