This is an impressive
BUCK
knife that comes with the companion
BUCK 118  flap-over leather sheath.
The vintage combo is from my personal collection, and is just waiting for the right person to appreciate its quality design and craftsmanship.
HISTORY:
BUCK
started the 3 line stamping in 1972 and used it thru 1986.
The first production knives came with "
four
Micarta spacers."   These early knives  I believe also had the popular black flap-over sheath.
Very soon after 1972, Buck Knives went to three spacers and finally prior to 1986 they went to two spacers and phased out the flap-over sheath in favor of the keeper strap type sheath.

So, with this BUCK 118 knife having the
3 line blade stamping and 4 Micarta spacers
...the production date would indicate it was manufactured between
1973 to 1980.
Remember “Back in their day” these older knives were purchased to be used…

HANDLE:
The heavy-duty handle has
4 Micarta Spacers
, and also finger grooves for a firm grip.  The beautiful
black composite handle
is made from a durable and smooth synthetic
material,
possible Micarta or Phenolic type
.
There is
No looseness
on this knife and both the finger guard and shiny pommel are tight.  This
Buck 118
knife has some signs of light handling and a little minor patina on the fittings, normal for being decades old.

ondition
for its age.
BLADE:
T
his slender
blade is a hefty
1/8" inch thick
and has
a 5/8" long
false top edge
that could be sharpened if desired. The
quality steel
fixed blade is straight and
reflective
and has some light surface scratches and some signs of re-sharpening
. There are
No blade edge nicks
on this
hunting/skinning
clip-point blade.
The 118 is an
excellent field knife
and is boldly trademarked stamped:

SHEATH:
The
BUCK 118
black leather sheath
has a
large belt loop
which is firmly attached with  factory rivets and excellent stitching.  This early style
"flap over"
sheath has a
working
metal snap stamped BUCK.
This is a
heavy-duty leather sheath
with
great intact stitching
and an impressive
1/2" inch thick stiff throat area.
The BUCK hunting knife fits this companion case like a glove, and the sheath offers great protection while carrying.  The leather sheath is in
Very
Good Condition
for being decades old.  It has some normal light surface scuffs, and signs of handling.
