Mischievous charmer....
Outstanding, 35" tall, (one of the
largest sizes
recorded) antique,
BLACK
or dark brown velveteen cloth, exotic native islander, girl doll,
circa 1930s
, by Norah Wellings, England*, (
earliest label
still attached to one foot) with huge,
brown glass
, flirty (
side-glancing
, not moving) eyes, broad smiling mouth, with an entertaining look,
applied pierced ears
with original bone earrings. Her head is covered with her original stitched on, thick black, curly hair wig and she has individually stitched fingers with separate thumbs and individually stitched toes. She has her
sewn-in label
on one foot:*
Made in England/By/Norah Wellings.
She wears her original, long grass skirt and matching necklace around her neck along with an exotic ZUZU,
bead necklace* representing good health, fertility, wealth
, etc. She adds
real interest
to any collection and has tab-type joints at her shoulders and hips so that she can sit or be posed in many ways (similar to a bed doll). She is soft stuffed with no holes or damages (her features are a little flattened from being stored). But she retains all her
original charm
. She has no repairs or odors and is from a smoke free home. Her Norah Wellings friends (also shown) are
not included.
We presently have a nice group of these various ethnic dolls which are fun to collect.
